BARBEQUE
TAHUNANUI

A design for a roof structure and a seating layout for a community barbecue area in Tahunanui, near the beach.

This project was led by the Nelson Youth Council, in conjunction with the Nelson City Council and the Nelson North Lions Club.

The space is designed to welcome people together. The materials are robust and reflect the surrounding environment. Recycled wharf piles support the shade structure over the four barbecues. Glass tiles, using recycled glass decorate the base of the barbecues.

It is part of an evolving process of the Tahunanui beachfront - Performance spaces have been created and Artists have also been chosen to develop large scale artworks using recycled materials to define the entrance areas.
